The Third Age refers to the period after the First Age of Childhood dependence and the Second Age of full-time employment and parental responsibility. One in four of the UK population is in the Third Age, a number which is growing year by year.

Membership of Birkdale and Ainsdale U3A is open to anyone in the Third Age and this includes people who are working part-time. No qualifications are required to be a member and none are given. There is no lower age limit for membership and you do not have to live in a particular part of the local area.
